CHUCK WEXLER, PERF DIRECTOR, RECEIVES PUBLIC SERVICE AWARD
Formal Recognition Supports Peer Accolades

Mention the name “Chuck Wexler” to most chiefs in the law enforcement arena, and the response is typically positive and replete with accolades about a professional they highly respect. As the Executive Director of the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) in Washington, D. C. since 1993, Wexler has been involved in numerous projects in the law enforcement sector that include the efficient delivery of police services to places such as Northern Ireland, Kinston Jamaica, London, the Middle East, Chicago, Kansas City, and Los Angeles, among others. In addition to providing technical assistance, Wexler has also engaged in research to facilitate effective service delivery.  Importantly, he coordinated and implemented the anti-crime strategy in Minneapolis that is now a model for public/private cooperation.  Wexler oversaw PERF’s analysis of the DC sniper investigation, and he has authored numerous authoritative reports in the field.

On June 26, 2008, Mr. Wexler received the 2008 Public Service Award by the Northern Virginia Chapter of the American Society of Public Administration.  He was recognized for his contributions to public service and, specifically, his work in the law enforcement arena. In addition to his work with PERF, he was cited for his work in the Boston Police Department as Operations Assistant to the Police Commissioner where he was instrumental in the development and management of the Community Disorders Unit that earned a national reputation. He was also recognized for his work as an assistant to the nation‘s first Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy.

Chuck Wexler is a knowledgeable law enforcement professional who is always seeking to explore new ways for police to be more effective.  The Police Executive Research Forum has gained an international reputation as a leader in policing.  I have known Chuck for about 15 years and he is, without question, one of the very best in law enforcement. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this honor,” says Philadelphia Police Commissioner, Charles H. Ramsey“He is highly respected as an innovative leader of police executives from some of the most significant police agencies in the country,” says Prince William County Police Chief Charlie Deane who attended the ceremony in support of Wexler.

Wexler , who is the consummate professional and an individual who is constantly giving of himself to others, has made a significant impact as a public servant.  Always supportive of his colleagues and present for them at professional functions, official ceremonies, and personal celebrations, Wexler received his own well deserved moments of recognition and praise.  The honor bestowed upon him by an organization attuned to critical issues in public administration reinforces the fact that he is an exemplary role model and public servant at its best.
