The New York Shields, Inc. is a non-profit fraternal organization comprised of law enforcement personnel of all ranks
throughout the State of New York.

Each May, a Memorial Breakfast is hosted by the Shields honoring the families of slain officers who
made the supreme sacrifice. The Shields Medal of Honor is presented to a family member at this time.
The Shields honor their Person of the Year. Also in May, a bus trip to the Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial in Washington, D.C. during which the Shields escort the families of those officers who have
died in the line of duty to the National Memorial and to the events surrounding the official ceremonies.
The New York Shields Medal of Valor is presented to Patricia Duffy Kelly, wife of Police Officer John M. Kelly, Staten Island Auto Larceny Unit, NYPD, who died in the line of duty on July 17, 2000
The New York Shields Medal of Valor is presented to Mr. Anthony Laurie, brother of Police Officer Rocco W. Laurie, 9th Precinct, NYPD, assassinated in the line of duty, January 28, 1972
The New York Shields Medal of Valor is presented to Mr. Foster, father of Police Officer Gregory P. Foster, 9th Precinct, NYPD, assassinated in the line of duty, January 28, 1972
Among those honored by the Shields was Murray Weiss, Criminal Justice Editor at the New York Post. Author of "Palm Beach Babylon". Mr. Weiss has written extensively on organized crime, the
NYPD, and the criminal justice system. Mr. Weiss was presented with the Eric M. Breindel "Integrity in Journalism Award. Patricia McCormack and Lorraine Shanley, Survivors of the Shield
(SOS), an organization comprised of survivors of members of the New York City Police Department who have died in the line of duty.
