NY COP FORUM APRIL 2000
What do you think of the senate campaign between Rudolph Giuliani and Hillary Clinton?
RESPONSES:
“I am strongly supporting Mayor Giuliani for the Senate. Although he was very unfair to us, (police officers) with regard to our contract, if you look at all of his accomplishments, we can have no more
effective advocate than Rudy Giuliani. The fact is that he is a take charge-get the job done kind of guy, something Congress has been lacking for quite some time. I know that this may not be popular with
the cops, but as New Yorkers, nobody can deny that he has done an excellent job as Mayor of New York City. He would be a fantastic advocate for New Yorkers in the Senate. Frankly, when you look at the
alternative, how can you not love Rudy?”

“This race will provide countless hours of material for NY comedians and radio talk show hosts. Other than that, we really have two losers here. Hillary can’t make a decision if her life depended on
it. Rudy did great things for New York City, but his style just won’t cut it in Washington. It’s an unfortunate race when you have to choose the lesser of two evils. Look for Vince Foster’s widow
to come forward with some interesting information. Maybe Hillary can campaign from prison where she and her husband belong.”

“The question in this Senate race is not who will win, but who loses – mainly, the public. Hillary Clinton is the modern reversal of the “carpetbagger” of the Reconstructionist Era. She has no actual
value to give to the people of NY State, anymore than she has given to the people of America as First Lady. In Rudy’s case, it is most unfortunate that the public will not acknowledge that his major
contribution of lowering crime is not based on his political and administrative actions. The members of the NYPD are still fighting the good fight while political opportunists such as the Mayor take
credit and reward the cops by doling out substandard contracts. ….As a recently retired MOS, I can tell you that the loser in this Senate race will unfortunately be the people, once again. Be safe.”

“I truly think that Mrs. Clinton running for a seat in New York is an outrage. She knows very little about the concerns of all New Yorkers. The arrogance is beyond understanding!”

EDITORIAL OPINION:
When the Senate campaign began a few months ago, it appeared that the NYPD would be the issue. The climate has changed with the recent events in Miami. The police in New York were being made out to be in
desperate need of supervision by the Federal government. That issue now appears to have been blunted for the time being.
