CITIFIELD RETIREE MOBILIZATION TRAINING SEMINAR

On Saturday, October 23, 2010, the NYPD Personnel Bureau conducted a second training seminar on Points of Distribution (PODs) with members of  the Retiree Mobilization Plan.  The training was conducted at Citifield,  home of the New York Mets Baseball Team

The POD drill was conducted on the large parking facilities of Citifield.  The RMP members were split up into two groups and presented with scenarios for the establishment of PODs.   The practical application of setting up PODs showed the retirees what the problems would be in actual PODs.  The flow of traffic and logistical methods used to deliver large amounts of supplies and their distribution became obvious to the trainees.    In a real critical incident,  the members of the RMP will be mobilized and report to the staging officer at the “check-in” in the Staging Area.   As members of the RMP they are being trained for service with the Logistics Section Chief
The principal duties of the Logistics Section under the Incident Command System include supplying the NYPD responders with communications equipment, food,  other needed equipment, maintainance of facilities that support those tasks, and the ground support.
In large scale incidents,  the NYPD Logistics Section will perform their duties in cooperation with the FDNY Logistics Section Chief and other organizations in a Unified Command structure.   A working knowledge of how to establish PODs is critical to the mission of the RMP.

Captain William Brooks, NYPD gave a presentation about the 2011 World Police and Fire Games.   They expect thousands of athletes from around the world to participate.   He stated that 7500 volunteers would be needed to assist the City of New York during the games.   He advised the retirees that should they choose to volunteer,  they should do so via the NYPD Actively Retired Website www.nypd2.org/retirement/home.html     Updates regarding the venue and locations of each sport event will be posted online on that site and retirees can volunteer for the events.
