SAINT GEORGE PRECINCT REUNION  2010

The front door of the 120th Precinct “Saint George Precinct”

The retired cops of the 120th Precinct met again at the REAL MADRID RESTAURANT on Forest Avenue.    For the past few years, Eddie Jordan has hosted this dinner each September.  This dinner has taken on all aspects of an annual precinct reunion,  so I think it fitting that we christen the dinner as the 120 Precinct Reunion.

Each September,  the Real Madrid is crowded with the retired veterans of the “Saint George Precinct” .  I had the honor of serving as a Sergeant on patrol for three years in the 120th, then as a LIeutenant for six years, and as an Executive Captain in the 120th Precinct for three years.   I grew to know and respect the cops who worked in a Command that was probably the most underestimated precinct in the City of New York. I wrote an article entitled: PRECINCT UNDER FIRE

Cops who transferred into the 120th Precinct from high crime precincts soon realized that they had not come to a “countryclub precinct”.  As the years have passed,  the violence that was always present in the precinct was revealed by the slaying of three cops in the line of duty within the confines of the 120th Precinct.    Anyone with a scanner that has the Staten Island frequency available should listen for an hour of so to the radio runs within the confines of the 120th Precinct.   It may surprise many of those who have a uneducated idea of the 120 Precinct.

Other articles that appear on NY Cop Online Magazine also reflect on the work done on Staten Island and in  the “Saint George Precinct”

There are not many groups such as ours.  What organizations other than military or police groups show their loyalty and respect to each other as do members of the NYPD to their fellow retirees?  It is a rare thing to witness the warmth and fellowship that those who attend these reunions feel towards each other.

Editor’s Note:

We will be sure to notify retirees of the 120th Precinct via a mass email next summer to ensure that those who would like to attend the next reunion can make plans to do so.  Many retirees live in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Florida.    A notice of the reunion date will also be posted on this website a few months before the next reunion.
See you next year!
